GOOD TO KNOW

Tips: "Baksheesh"! It's a word you'll quickly learn! Although it is easy to refuse solicitors, tipping is part of the culture and is a way of rewarding good service and a job well done. Tips for guides are never included. How much you give is up to you.

Accommodation is in line with local standards.

Security checks at Egyptian airports can be extensive and unpredictable, depending on the number of tourists. This is why the tour leader plans schedules as far in advance as possible.

Due to heavy traffic in Cairo, travel times can be long.

You will be grouped with other participants during excursions.
This package includes free time, during which you can explore at your leisure. However, you will be responsible for arranging your own transport.

Any optional extras are subject to a surcharge, which is payable on site to your guide or local representative.

The order of visits may be changed due to local circumstances.

Visits may be fast-paced (see the day-by-day itinerary for details), which means early morning wake-up calls (except when the boat is sailing).

Egypt is a cultural destination.

Please note that if you have booked the "hotel only" option (without international flights), you must provide us with your flight details as soon as possible via the contact form located in 'Help and Contact' at the bottom of the page. This will enable us to arrange your transfers.

Formalities

Please refer to the information below concerning the travel formalities applicable to United States citizens travelling to Egypt. Entry requirements may change at any time and must therefore be verified with the relevant Egyptian authorities before departure.

Travellers must hold an ordinary United States passport in good condition, valid for at least six months from the date of arrival in Egypt and containing at least one blank visa page. Different requirements apply to temporary passports, emergency travel documents and holders of diplomatic or official passports. Holders of diplomatic or official passports must obtain the appropriate visa from an Egyptian embassy or consulate before travelling and cannot rely on a visa being issued on arrival.

Visa

United States citizens require a visa to enter Egypt, including for tourism. A tourist visa may be obtained online before departure through the official Egyptian eVisa portal at https://www.visa2egypt.gov.eg, on arrival at authorised Egyptian ports of entry, or in advance from the Egyptian embassy or consulate responsible for the traveller’s place of residence.

The single-entry tourist visa on arrival costs USD 30 and generally permits a stay of up to 30 days. It must normally be paid for in cash and in US dollars. The single-entry eVisa costs USD 30, while the multiple-entry eVisa costs USD 65. The multiple-entry eVisa generally remains valid for several entries during its validity period, with each stay limited to a maximum of 30 days. Fees charged by an Egyptian embassy or consulate may differ from eVisa and visa-on-arrival fees. Any service charges collected by a tour operator or local provider are separate from the official visa fee.

Travellers applying for an eVisa should submit their application at least seven days before departure, carefully verify all information entered and carry a printed copy of the approved eVisa. Possession of an eVisa or visa does not automatically guarantee admission, as the final decision rests with the Egyptian border authorities.

Travellers arriving directly in South Sinai and remaining exclusively within the authorised resort area may be eligible for a free Sinai entry stamp for a short stay. This permit does not allow travel to Cairo, Luxor or other areas outside the authorised zone. A standard Egyptian visa must be obtained if the traveller intends to leave the zone or remain beyond the authorised period. Due to the security situation in Sinai and the possibility of border closures, travellers should verify current conditions before departure.

Visitors wishing to stay beyond the period authorised by their visa must contact the Egyptian immigration authorities before it expires. Overstaying may result in fines, delays or other difficulties when leaving Egypt. Travellers should retain their entry stamp, as proof of lawful entry may be required to obtain an exit stamp.

Upon arrival, the immigration authorities may request a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation and evidence of sufficient financial resources. Travellers must comply with immigration checks and should be able to present their passport when requested by the local authorities.

No yellow fever vaccination certificate is required when travelling directly from the United States. However, proof of vaccination is required for travellers aged nine months or older arriving from a country where there is a risk of yellow fever transmission, including certain airport transits or layovers lasting more than 12 hours. Travellers should ensure that their routine vaccinations are up to date. Vaccinations against hepatitis A, hepatitis B and typhoid may be recommended, while rabies vaccination may be considered depending on the itinerary and planned activities. Personal medical advice should be obtained before departure.

Travellers must comply with Egyptian laws, immigration rules, identity checks and local customs. Violations may result in fines, detention, deportation or an entry ban.
