Kenya's national currency is the Kenyan shilling, represented by the symbol ‘KSh’. As far as international currencies are concerned, it is usually possible to pay in US dollars at most accommodation, restaurants, and tourist sites.

As Kenya is an equatorial country, its climate is tropical, with alternating wet and dry seasons. However, the weather varies from region to region. Coastal areas are hot and humid, while temperatures tend to be milder inland and at higher altitudes.

American travelers must hold a passport valid for at least six months beyond the date of entry into Kenya. Since January 2024, Kenya no longer issues traditional visas on arrival and requires all travelers to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). Travelers must complete the online application prior to departure and receive the approved authorization before being allowed to enter the country. Official information regarding the eTA procedure and eligibility requirements is provided by the Kenyan government.

Travelers should also review health and vaccination recommendations. A yellow fever vaccination may be required depending on the traveler’s country of origin. Additional health guidance includes malaria prevention, food and water safety, and awareness of local sanitary conditions.
