4.7Trip advisor rating 4.5
1,818 reviews

Experience moments of pure bliss by reserving your own little slice of tropical paradise at the 4-star Riu Atoll Maldives. Nestled on a stunning white-sand beach and lapped by the turquoise waters of the Dhaalu Atoll lagoon, the private island of Maafushi, home to the hotel, has been developed in a way that preserves the destination’s natural beauty while providing excellent leisure and relaxation facilities. The clean, contemporary lines of the various villas lend the place a unique charm and create a distinctive harmony with the tall coconut palms that tower over the island. Far from the hustle and bustle of the modern world, you will soon lose all sense of time.

Rooms

On dry land or over the water, the rooms at Riu Atoll Maldives all share the same beautiful décor, combining wood with white. This elegant contrast is enhanced by carefully chosen details that give the interior design real character.

Double Room [31 M2]

Measuring 31 m², this room features a large double bed two metres wide and a spacious seating area where guests can unwind in complete tranquillity while taking in the island’s magnificent scenery. A large picture window opens onto a furnished balcony.

Beach Room [31 M2]

From the first light of dawn until late into the night, you can step outside to play in the waves, then return to the air-conditioned comfort of the 31 m² accommodation. You can also unwind on the private terrace.

Junior Overwater Suite [37 M2]

Throughout a stay in this 37 m² suite set above the water, guests can relax to the gentle murmur of the waves. There is also a large terrace, perfect for sunbathing while enjoying the refreshing ocean breeze. A staircase leads directly down into the lagoon’s crystal-clear waters.

Restaurants & bars

Savour a variety of culinary delights throughout the stay with two restaurants, a steakhouse and several bars dotted around the small island. Twice a week, the hotel organises a themed buffet.

All-inclusive

Includes breakfasts, lunches, dinners, local beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and a range of services offered by the establishment (see on-site conditions).

Le Sofa is an Italian restaurant where you can savour the peninsula’s signature dishes. It is the perfect place for a romantic evening over a delicious dinner.

Sunshine Swim-up Bar

Sunshine is the hotel’s swim-up bar. Order a cocktail without leaving the water and enjoy cooling off in the freshwater pool while savouring a delicious drink.

Activities & lifestyle

Every moment of a stay at the Riu Atoll Maldives is pure pleasure. When guests are not swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the lagoon or the pools, they can take part in a wide range of water-based and land-based activities.

Among the many activities available at the property, snorkelling is an absolute must. Suitable for all ages, this chance to swim alongside the lagoon’s brightly coloured fish will create unforgettable memories. Afterwards, guests can simply stretch out on a sunlounger or unwind at the Renova Spa. For children, the hotel offers the RiuLand kids’ club. Entertainment is also provided for adults during the day and in the evening.

Important information about your destination

Customs and traditions

The Maldivian people are renowned for their warmth and hospitality. However, as a Muslim nation, the Maldives upholds stringent customs and public conduct regulations. In the capital city of Malé and on local inhabited islands, it is essential to dress modestly, covering the shoulders and knees, and to refrain from wearing swimsuits in public areas.
Alcohol is strictly forbidden on local islands, including Malé, and its consumption or possession is illegal. However, private island hotels and resorts are permitted to serve alcohol to their guests. Visitors are advised to respect these rules to avoid any misunderstandings with the local authorities. When visiting a mosque, it is essential to remove shoes and wear covering clothing to enter.

Time difference

London, United Kingdom time is 4:00 hours behind Maldives

Electricity and internet access

Voltage in the Maldives is 230V, with D and G plugs ( similar to the UK), although not all establishments use this type of plug. We recommend that you bring a universal adapter for extra safety. Internet connections are often available in hotels and resorts, but may be less reliable on more remote islands. Wi-Fi may have to be paid for in some establishments.

Safety

The Maldives is considered a safe destination for tourists, especially in the island hotels which have their own security. Nevertheless, it is advisable to remain vigilant on the local islands and not to leave valuables unattended. When participating in water activities, follow the safety instructions of your guides and be aware of currents, which can be strong in certain areas.

Currency

The local currency is the Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR), although the US dollar (USD) is widely accepted in hotels, restaurants and dive centres. Cash is recommended for tips and small expenses, although credit cards are accepted in most tourist establishments.

Weather

The Maldives enjoy a warm tropical climate throughout the year. The best time to visit is from November to April, during the dry season, with sunny weather and little rainfall. The rainy season, from May to October, is characterised by tropical showers and stronger winds, although the days remain warm and sunny.

Languages

The official language of the Maldives is Dhivehi. However, English is widely understood and spoken in hotels, restaurants and tourist areas.

Accommodation quality

The quality of accommodation varies from guesthouses on local islands to luxury hotels and villas on stilts in resorts. The standard of comfort and service in Maldivian hotels is generally high, although this may vary in accommodation on local islands.

Food quality

Maldivian cuisine is influenced by Indian, Sri Lankan and Arabic flavours, with heavy use of fish, coconut and spices. The resorts offer a varied international cuisine, while the options on the inhabited islands are more limited and local. Bottled water is recommended as tap water is not safe to drink.

Other information

The Maldives offers a unique experience of white sandy beaches, turquoise lagoons and exceptional marine biodiversity. Travellers are encouraged to respect the archipelago's fragile environment by avoiding the use of plastic and respecting coral reefs when diving or snorkelling.
