Your country's embassy in Egypt:
Most embassies are located in Cairo (Garden City and Zamalek districts). Note its address and emergency number before departure.
Vaccinations
No vaccination is mandatory for most travellers. A yellow fever certificate is required for travellers aged 9 months or older arriving from (or having transited more than 12 hours through) an endemic area. Polio vaccination is required for travellers arriving from Afghanistan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Somalia, Kenya, Niger, the Democratic Republic of the Congo or Syria. Routine vaccinations should be up to date.
Visa
For hotel stays:
The visa is mandatory for most nationalities. Citizens of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar do not need a visa. Citizens of the European Union, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and many other countries can obtain a tourist visa online on https://visa2egypt.gov.eg (apply at least seven days before departure) or on arrival in Egypt. Travellers holding a valid, used visa from a Schengen country, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, Japan or New Zealand, or a residence permit from one of these countries or from a Gulf (GCC) country valid at least six months, can usually obtain a visa on arrival (return ticket and sufficient funds required; some nationalities excluded). Other nationalities must apply to an Egyptian embassy or consulate before travelling. Initially valid for one month, the tourist visa can be extended at the immigration office in Cairo ("Mogamma'aa", Abbasseya).
The visa is subject to a fee: on arrival, USD 30 (or the equivalent in euros) for a single entry and USD 60 (or the equivalent in euros) for multiple entries; online, USD 30 for a single entry and USD 65 for multiple entries. The visa sticker can be bought at all Egyptian international airports at counters open 24 hours a day; payment is in cash only (USD or EUR). At Cairo airport, a digital visa on arrival (QR code) is also available: USD 36. From 1 January 2027, the single-entry visa fee is announced at USD 33.
Many nationalities arriving directly at Sharm el-Sheikh airport and staying within the governorate (Sharm el-Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba, Taba) can obtain a free Sinai entry stamp valid for up to 15 days; this does not apply to all nationalities. To leave the governorate, an Egypt visa is required. The Sinai stamp cannot be changed once in Egypt.
Holders of official passports (service and diplomatic) must apply for a biometric visa at the competent Egyptian embassy or consulate before arriving in Egypt, unless their country has an exemption agreement with Egypt. Otherwise, no visa will be issued on arrival and they will be refused entry at their own expense.
Service fees (EUR 40 to 65 per person) may be requested on arrival at the airport, depending on your itinerary.
For organised tours:
For travellers who need a visa and are eligible for a visa on arrival, the visa is provided by our local partner: USD 30 (or the equivalent in euros) per person. Service fees of EUR 40 to 100 per person apply to all travellers (customary and mandatory tips for the boat/hotel staff, payable locally). Tips for guides and drivers are at the client's discretion and are not included in the service fees. Travellers whose nationality requires a visa before departure must obtain it themselves from an Egyptian embassy or consulate.
