Visa

Visa requirements for Egypt vary depending on the traveller’s nationality, passport type, purpose of travel and length of stay. All travellers must check the conditions applicable to their nationality with the nearest Egyptian embassy or consulate before departure. A visa exemption or eligibility for an e-Visa or visa on arrival must not be assumed.

Travellers whose nationality is eligible may apply for a tourist e-Visa through the Egyptian government’s official portal:

https://visa2egypt.gov.eg/

The application should be submitted at least seven days before the intended date of arrival. The official fee is 30 USD for a single-entry tourist e-Visa and 65 USD for a multiple-entry tourist e-Visa. Travellers must carry a printed copy of the approved e-Visa and may be asked to provide their travel itinerary, return or onward ticket and accommodation details on arrival.

Eligible travellers may also obtain a single-entry tourist visa at approved Egyptian airports. Since 1 March 2026, the official fee is 30 USD or the equivalent in euros, generally payable in cash at an official kiosk before immigration. A visa issued on arrival is normally valid for a stay of up to 30 days. Travellers should confirm their eligibility before departure, as a visa on arrival is not available to all nationalities or passport categories.

Travellers who are not eligible for an e-Visa or visa on arrival must obtain a visa from the competent Egyptian embassy or consulate before travelling. Additional supporting documents, prior authorisation or longer processing times may apply to certain nationalities.

A passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival is generally required. Additional requirements may apply depending on nationality, and travellers must ensure that their passport contains sufficient blank pages. National identity cards are accepted only for certain nationalities and under specific conditions; travellers should not rely on an identity card unless this has been expressly confirmed by the Egyptian authorities.

Travellers arriving by air at Sharm El-Sheikh and remaining for fewer than 15 days exclusively in Sharm El-Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba or Taba may, depending on their nationality, be eligible for a free Sinai entry permission stamp. This permission does not allow travel elsewhere in Egypt. A standard Egyptian visa is required for longer stays or travel outside the authorised resort areas.

Holders of diplomatic, service or other official passports must check the requirements with the competent Egyptian embassy or consulate before departure. A visa may be required in advance, even when ordinary passport holders of the same nationality are eligible for a visa on arrival.

Visa fees, eligibility rules and entry conditions may change at short notice. Travellers remain responsible for obtaining the correct travel documents before departure and should verify the latest requirements through the official Egyptian e-Visa portal and the Egyptian embassy or consulate responsible for their country of residence.
