Please refer to the information below regarding travel formalities for U.S. travelers going to Portugal (identification documents, entry requirements, visa, health recommendations, travel advisories).
For more information, consult the following official websites:

U.S. citizens must hold a valid passport to enter Portugal. The passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the intended departure date from the Schengen Area and must have been issued within the previous ten years.
U.S. nationals are exempt from Schengen visa requirements for short-term tourism or business stays in Portugal and the Schengen Area, for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
Once the European ETIAS system is implemented, U.S. travelers will be required to obtain an electronic travel authorization prior to departure to the Schengen Area.
Final admission to Portuguese territory is determined by border control authorities upon arrival. Travelers may be required to present proof of onward or return travel, accommodation details, travel insurance, and sufficient financial means.
Travelers are advised to review health recommendations prior to departure. No vaccinations are mandatory for entry into Portugal when traveling from the United States; however, routine vaccinations should be up to date.
Travelers must comply with Portuguese laws and regulations during their stay. Local laws may differ from those in the United States, and identity checks may be conducted by Portuguese authorities.
