Safety
Safety is generally good in Turkey, with very few incidents of assault reported. However, it is essential to remain vigilant. Make sure you keep an eye on your personal belongings when travelling. Keep valuables, such as your passport, in locked suitcases or in your room safe. Carry only the money you need. Avoid deserted alleyways, especially at night. Watch your pockets and bags, both in town and around airports.
As in all major cities, extra vigilance is recommended in tourist areas, particularly in Istanbul, where it is advisable to look after your personal documents.
Taking a stance on subjects of a political nature, particularly on social networks (including sharing) in Turkey, may result in a ban on entering or leaving Turkish territory and in some cases in criminal proceedings.
Currency
The official currency is the Turkish lira, and you can change your money in exchange offices, hotels and banks, of which there are many, especially in the big cities. In some tourist areas, the euro is occasionally accepted.
Weather
The best times to visit Turkey are spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November). In fact, midsummer temperatures can be very high (around 35-40°C), which can make cultural visits less enjoyable. Ideal, however, for beach activities.
Languages
The official language in Turkey is Turkish, but there are other minority languages spoken by some locals (Arabic, Greek...) and English is widely spoken in tourist areas.
