Useful information
Vietnam has a tropical climate, with significant variations depending on the region. Hanoi in the north has a subtropical climate with cool winters, while Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) in the south remains warm all year round. The best time to visit is generally between November and April, when the weather is dry and more pleasant for exploring, especially in the south and centre of the country.
The official currency in Vietnam is the Vietnamese dong (VND). Bank cards are increasingly accepted in major cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, but it is advisable to carry cash at all times, especially when shopping at local markets or in rural areas. Cash dispensers are readily available in larger towns.
The country is rich in diverse culture and fascinating history. Historic sites such as the Cu Chi tunnels and the Citadel of Hué bear witness to significant events of the past, including the Vietnam War. During your visits, it is important to respect local customs, such as removing your shoes before entering temples and houses, or bowing your head slightly in greeting. Respect for tradition, particularly towards elders, is fundamental to Vietnamese culture.
Vietnamese cuisine is one of the tastiest in Asia, offering a wide variety of fresh, well-balanced dishes. You can try fragrant soups such as pho, fresh spring rolls (goi cuon) and dishes based on rice, chicken or pork. If you're travelling south, don't forget to try the local tropical fruits and the famous canh chua (sour soup). Street food is ubiquitous and an integral part of the Vietnamese experience.
Discover the destination
Vietnam, a land of surprises, will astonish you with its contrasts and unspoilt landscapes. The scenery of your trip will be surreal: make your way through the sun-drenched rice fields and bamboo hedges. You are at the heart of a protected, magical and authentic Asia.
