In Sigiriya, you'll discover the country's iconic culture and heritage, beginning with Pidurangala Rock; then, meet the elephants in Habarana, visit the temples of Dambulla, and, finally, head south to kick back and relax on the tropical beaches of Tangalle.

Your detailed itinerary
Day 1 | Colombo - Sigiriya
Arrival at Colombo airport. Welcome and transfer with an English-speaking driver to Sigiriya. Arrive and settle in at the hotel. Evening - free time. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Distance Colombo airport - Sigiriya hotel: approx. 150 km. (around a 3.5 h drive).
Day 2 | Sigiriya - Pidurangala - Sigiriya
Breakfast at the hotel, then departure for Pidurangala (approx 5 km; about a 10 min drive).
Visit to the Pidurangala Rock, a mountain with a working monastery below. The rocky path leads to historic caves used by monks as far back as the first century BC. Near the summit, the imposing restored statue of a reclining Buddha will certainly catch your eye. When you reach the top, monastic ruins and a stupa provide some breathtaking views. Early birds can enjoy the sunrise. The panoramic view from Pidurangala features the famous Sigiriya rock fortress.
Return to the hotel for a free evening. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3 | Sigiriya - Habarana - Sigiriya
Breakfast at the hotel.
Today, visit the village of Habarana with a local pirogue ride. (approx 20 km from Sigiriya; about 30min drive).
Very early departure for Hiriwaduna, a small traditional village on the edge of a reservoir, reached on foot by a 45-minute walk. The walk takes you through a banana plantation, where you can taste the local beverage and learn about the region's many crops and spices.
Return to hotel. Evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 4 | Sigiriya - Hurulu Eco Park - Sigiriya
Breakfast at the hotel.
Today, you'll enjoy a Jeep safari to Hurulu Eco Park in Habarana (Approx: 20 km, about 30 mins to Sigiriya).
Hurulu Eco Park was designated a biosphere reserve in January 1977. This 10,000 hectare ecosystem is home to a thriving animal population. The reserve is crucial for the Sri Lankan elephant and its seasonal migrations among the surrounding forests. Neighbouring protected areas, such as the Ritigala, Minneriya-Giritale, and Mahaweli reservoirs, add to its significance. Enjoy a safari in an Indian Mahindra Jeep to observe the majestic elephants, elegant birds, and the region's remarkable landscapes.
Return to the hotel for a free evening. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Tip: We recommend bringing sunglasses and a cap/hat.
Day 5 | Sigiriya - Dambulla - Tangalle
Breakfast at the hotel, then drive to Tangalle.
En route, visit the Golden Temple of Dambulla (approx. 30 min drive). Founded in the 1st century by King Valagamba. Ancient sculptures and paintings of Buddha and various Hindu deities are located in five central caves. The original sculptures and paintings have gained additions over the centuries and stand as a monument to the evolution of artistic styles.
Later, departure for Tangalle (approx 340 km, 6 hrs drive from Sigiriya). Arrival and check-in at hotel.

Tip: For temple visits, bring clothing that covers shoulders and knees. Visits are barefoot, so bring socks.
Day 6 | Tangalle

Tangalle is a charming coastal town known for its golden sandy beaches, turquoise waters that are ideal for swimming in, and picturesque coastal scenery. The area offers a relaxed tropical ambience with lush coconut palms and tranquillity. Guests can explore secluded coves and relax on pristine beaches.

FORMALITIES FOR ENTERING SRI LANKA
Entry to Sri Lanka is subject to an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). Applications can be made online at http://www.eta.gov.lk/ or on arrival at the BIA office at the airport.
On arrival in Sri Lanka, visitors must have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after the date of entry, a return ticket, and proof of financial means for the duration of their stay.
