Please refer to the information below, which is subject to change and must be carefully verified prior to departure with the relevant authorities. Canadian passport holders travelling to South Africa for tourism purposes must hold a passport valid for at least 30 days beyond the intended date of departure from South Africa and containing at least two consecutive blank pages. South African authorities strictly enforce passport requirements, and damaged or non-compliant passports may result in refusal of entry.
Canadian citizens are visa-exempt for tourist travel to South Africa. Upon arrival, a stay of up to 90 days is generally granted. The exact length of stay is determined by the immigration officer at the port of entry and may be shorter depending on individual circumstances. Any extension of stay must be applied for before the initial authorization expires through the South African Department of Home Affairs. Official information regarding entry and stay conditions is available at https://www.dha.gov.za (https://www.dha.gov.za).
Upon entry into South Africa, travelers may be required to present proof of onward or return travel, evidence of accommodation for part or all of the stay, and proof of sufficient financial means. Immigration authorities may conduct identity checks and additional verifications and reserve the right to deny entry if admission requirements are not fully met.
No vaccinations are mandatory for travelers arriving directly from Canada. However, a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travelers aged one year and over arriving from, or transiting for more than 12 hours through, countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission. Travelers are advised to ensure that routine vaccinations are up to date and to consult official health guidance prior to travel, particularly via the Government of Canada website: https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/health-safety (https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/health-safety) and the South African Department of Health: https://www.health.gov.za (https://www.health.gov.za).
All visitors must comply strictly with South African laws and regulations throughout their stay. Identity checks are common, and penalties for violations can be severe. Travelers are advised to carry a copy of their passport and entry stamp at all times and to strictly follow the instructions of local authorities.
