Your detailed itinerary
Day 1: BARI - ALBEROBELLO REGION
Upon arrival at Bari Airport, collect your hired vehicle and drive to the Alberobello area. Allow time to explore the historic centre and unwind on one of the numerous terraces. Overnight accommodation will be provided at the hotel.
Day 2: ALBEROBELLO REGION - MATERA
A visit to Matera is highly recommended to appreciate the 'Sassi', the unique troglodyte dwellings formed by white buildings arranged in a distinctive way that allows the roofs to serve as streets. As you explore the town, you will have the opportunity to discover a fascinating array of galleries and caves, meticulously carved into the tufa rock. Return to your hotel.
Day 3: ALBEROBELLO BARI REGION - POLIGNANO A MARE MONOPOLI
Bari's medieval old town offers visitors the chance to experience a typical Italian atmosphere, with its winding alleys and staircases. Many women can be seen preparing fresh pasta in front of their houses, adding to the unique ambience of this historic district. Bari is also home to two beautiful churches dedicated to the city's patron saints. We encourage you to take your time in Bari. Your next destination is Polignano A Mare, where you will find a beautiful panorama of houses clinging to the cliffs. A pleasant walk through the narrow, historic streets, which open out onto the sea. A visit to Monopoli, with its well-preserved medieval centre and spectacular views from the castle, is highly recommended. The itinerary includes an overnight stay in the Alberobello region.
Day 4: ALBEROBELLO
Then it's off to Alberobello, a mandatory stop on any trip to Puglia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the narrow, winding streets to discover the distinctive 'trulli', the region's unique conical-roofed dwellings. You may also wish to enjoy an aperitivo at one of our preferred venues in Alberobello. Overnight stay at your hotel.
Day 5: CONVERSANO - BRINDISI LECCE
Your next destination is Brindisi, also known as the 'Gateway to the Orient' and an important port of call since Roman times. Then take time to discover Lecce, the ‘Florence of the Baroque’, which welcomes you in a magnificent architectural setting. The local stone, which is particularly soft, is ideal for the many remains that have contributed to the city's cultural reputation. Overnight stay in the Lecce region.
Day 5: LECCE - OTRANTO GALATINA - GALLIPOLI - LECCE
The easternmost tip of Italy is Otranto, where a dialect closely related to Greek is still spoken. A visit to the old town and cathedral, which features an impressive mosaic floor, is highly recommended. Further afield lies the charming little town of Galatina, where you can visit the Chapel of San Paolo, which has a fascinating history as the place where women bitten by the tarantula found a cure for their illness. Then head for the Gallipoli peninsula, with its whitewashed houses and terraced roofs, and enjoy the breathtaking views as you stroll along the ramparts. Overnight accommodation in the Lecce region.
Day 7: LECCE - SANTA MARIA DI LEUCA OR PORTO CESAREO - LECCE
Enjoy a beautiful day of relaxation in the region with the most beautiful beaches in southern Italy. Overnight stay in the Lecce or Galatina region.
Day 8: LECCE - BARI
This is the end of your journey through the magnificent, wild region that is Puglia. Drop off your vehicle at Bari airport and have a safe flight home!
